remote

I'm trying something different this time. I'm in a cafe in Oakland by the water. I just read a story from a friend of mine who travels all of the time. And once upon a time we used to date. He is one of the most adventurous people I have ever met in my life.

Reading his story I was a) taken aback by how fantastic a writer and human being he is and b) reminded of the point in time when my heart broke for him. Way back when.

He has the best stories. Always. Of anyone I know, he's got the most interesting things and places to talk about. He's been everywhere, traveling in all conditions. He is covered in mud a lot. He hikes through forests and wades through rivers and hacks through unbeaten paths with a machete. He refuses guns when they are offered to him for protection.

He inspired my love of savagery.

One night out dancing when I was still in love with him I came out for a smoke break and saw him across the lounge. Way in the corner. Telling one of his fantastic stories to some hippie chick with dreadlocks who works in South America healing people with experimental psychoactive drugs.

1) I couldn't really compare with that kind of competition - I mean. We were like. The Odd Couple, he and I. They could find more in common in five minutes than we had in five months.
2) The look on her face was the EXACT same look I got the first time he worked his storytelling magic on me

The gloss had been off our apple for a few weeks, I wasn't terribly shocked to see him vibing with someone else. But in that moment. Gulp.

Heart in stomach. Tears in eyes.

The dumbest thing. The animal in me is a very jealous one, indeed.

That was the beginning and the end of the end.

Reading his story today though. So happy to see that magic again. Relieved as well. Cause from 8,000 miles away it hasn't a single chance of breaking my heart.

There. My first story.

Good day, my loves.

  1. Damn it, girl, just bring me your love already, will you?

My stories are all boring. But I promise my eyes will never stop filling with wide wonder at your smile.
